Making your courses

A course contains all your lessons for the school year

If you are an multi-subject (elementary school, sometimes middle school) teacher with one class

  • Log in to your SKIES account.
  • Select the “Teacher” tab, and click “Make new course.”
  • For the title, name your course something like “1st grade.”
  • Scroll to the bottom and click “Save.”
  • In the left-hand panel, click “Add new lesson”, then enter the name of a subject, like “Math”, “Reading”, “Writing”, “Science”, etc.
  • Click “Add new lesson” multiple times until you have added all of the subjects you plan to teach with SKIES.
  • Congratulations! Your folders are set up. To add a new lesson, you will click a subject, then click “Add new sublesson,” then click the blue + button to begin adding cards onto the main timeline.
  • Note that lessons are ordered numerically or alphabetically. Name your lessons “1.”, “2.1”, “3.1” etc. to have them appear in the proper order.

Otherwise, if you’re a single-subject (high school, sometimes middle school) teacher with multiple periods

  • Log in to your SKIES account.
  • Select the “Teacher” tab, and click “Make new course.”
  • For the title, name your course something like “Science” or “AP Chemistry.”
  • Under Classes, type in the first period you teach that subject, e.g. “Period 1.”
  • Click “Add another class” to add more periods that use the same lessons.
  • Scroll to the bottom and click “Save.”
  • Repeat for any other subjects you teach.
  • Congratulations! Your courses are set up. To add a new lesson, click on a period name. Then in the left-hand panel click “Add new lesson”. Then click the blue + button to begin adding cards onto the main timeline.
  • Note that lessons are ordered numerically or alphabetically. Name your lessons “1.”, “2.1”, “3.1” etc. to have them appear in the proper order.
